In 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with the marketing department at Black & Veatch, a global engineering and construction company. This internship came about after a spontaneous conversation with CEO, Mario Azar, which led to an interview and ultimately allowed me to contribute to a variety of marketing initiatives that supported both internal and external communications.
During the internship, I gained hands-on experience in multiple areas of marketing, including content creation, digital strategy, and communications. Some of my key responsibilities included:
Content Management & Organization: I organized content management systems and the internal SharePoint platform to ensure easier access to sales enablement materials, marketing collateral, and other key resources for the team.
Marketing Content Support: I provided on-site assistance for photo and video shoots, supporting the creation of engaging visual content for campaigns and social media.
Content Creation & Copywriting: I repurposed existing materials to create fresh content, including social media designs and perspective articles.
Authoring a Featured Article: One of my proudest accomplishments was writing and publishing the perspective article, A Black & Veatch Salute: 250 Years of the U.S. Army. This piece commemorated the Army’s milestone anniversary while highlighting Black & Veatch’s long-standing partnership and impact, allowing me to apply both creative storytelling and corporate communications skills.
Website Readability & Editing: I reviewed and refined website content, ensuring sentence casing and formatting promoted clarity and a professional appearance.
Industry Conference Support: I assisted in preparing abstracts for submission to industry conferences, including creating forms and organizing materials to support the marketing team’s outreach and speaking opportunities.
This internship provided me with a comprehensive understanding of corporate marketing operations and the ways in which a global organization communicates its brand, builds partnerships, and engages audiences. The experience strengthened my skills in content strategy, professional communication, and marketing execution while allowing me to contribute work that had tangible impact on both the internal team and external audiences.
